The decision has been made. You are breaking up, separating or divorcing. Now what? There are so many things to decide, so much pressure, so much sadness, loneliness, guilt, anger and shame. Living with these overwhelming feelings can paralyze you. Divorce is a defining time in your life. The good news is that YOU get to decide how it defines you. Will you be angry and bitter? Will your kids suffer because of your inability to get through this time and stay stuck in your negative feelings? Or will you move through this process with an open mind and heart, finding the lessons and learning so much about yourself that you blossom into the incredible person that you are meant to be? It is your choice. I know it may feel like you have lost all of your choices, that this divorce is “happening to you”, that you can barely get through one more day without feeling out of control or overwhelmed. It does not have to feel this way.
Through a thoughtful process of exploration, we will work together to move through the grief process of divorce. Yes, just like a death, the grief process of divorce has specific stages that you must work through. You can get stuck in any of them, the denial and bargaining, or the acceptance and hope. Our work together will focus on getting you to hope so that you can be free and live your amazing life. With hope you can move into the future and get unstuck, you will be a better person, friend and parent. You will be able to focus on your work, your family and yourself and stop obsessing on the last days, weeks, months or years of your relationship.
